Prosus Ventures Leads $13.5M Investment in Luzia to Accelerate AI Accessibility Across Latin America
- With over 65 million users, Luzia is now one of the fastest-growing consumer AI startups in Europe and Latin America
- The capital will allow Luzia to expand its presence in Latin American markets with the opening of a new headquarters in Brazil
- Present in over 40 countries, Luzia has amassed 65 million users worldwide and is ranked as the 29th top generative AI app globally by Andreessen Horowitz
Prosus Ventures announced its lead investment in Spanish AI company Luzia as part of a $13.5 million funding round. The round includes participation from returning investors Khosla Ventures and Monashees, and brings Luzia’s total capital raised to nearly $57 million since its founding in 2023.
Luzia is redefining how everyday users engage with AI. The company’s personal assistant—available via app, WhatsApp, and Telegram—has already reached over 65 million users across 40+ countries, making it the largest independent conversational AI company in Latin America and one of the top generative AI apps globally.
Prosus Ventures’ investment will support Luzia’s continued product development and international expansion, including the opening of a new regional headquarters in Brazil, where user growth is strongest. The capital will also help scale Luzia’s team—one of the few based in Spain offering hands-on AI development experience—across engineering, design, and machine learning roles.
Álvaro Higes, Founder and CEO of Luzia, emphasizes: “Luzia began as a friendly chat companion; we’re now turning it into the friction-free operating layer for daily life in Spanish and Portuguese. Our north star is radical accessibility—AI that’s effortless, private, and culturally fluent for everyone, not just tech insiders. Prosus shares that conviction and, with their global footprint and execution depth, is the perfect partner for our next chapter.”
Luzia has scaled rapidly, outperforming major consumer platforms in adoption speed. The app now ranks #29 among generative AI apps globally according to Andreessen Horowitz, and is among the top 10 most downloaded apps in 12 Latin American markets.
“We believe generative AI is fundamentally reshaping how people interact with the internet—moving from passive searches to active conversations, from anonymous tools to trusted assistants,” said Sandeep Bakshi, Head of European Investments, Prosus Ventures. “Luzia is at the forefront of this shift, building an intuitive, accessible interface tailored to the way people communicate in its core markets, especially across Spanish- and Portuguese-speaking regions. Whether it’s booking travel or ordering groceries, Luzia makes it as easy as chatting with a friend on WhatsApp. We’re excited to back a team that’s democratizing AI for everyday use.”
A Strategic Fit Within the Prosus Ecosystem
Latin America and Europe are core regions for Prosus Ventures and central to our long-term investment strategy. As a mobile-first region experiencing rapid digital adoption, Latin America presents unique opportunities to build essential digital infrastructure in sectors like commerce, healthcare, and financial services.
We’ve long believed in the potential of Latin American founders to drive transformative change through technology. Our earliest investments in companies like iFood and OLX helped establish new digital consumer behaviors across these regions.
Now, with Luzia, we see the next evolution of this journey—bringing AI-first consumer infrastructure to the region at scale. Luzia’s rapid growth in countries like Brazil, Colombia, Mexico, and Argentina aligns with Prosus’ mission to back founders building intuitive and inclusive technologies that bridge critical access gaps.
Luzia’s growth mirrors Prosus’ global thesis around application-layer AI—where artificial intelligence transitions from backend infrastructure to real-world utility. Just as Prosus identified the rise of the consumer internet early through its investments in platforms such as Swiggy, Byju’s, and Meesho, we now see AI assistants as a powerful new interface for access to commerce, services, and information.
With over 65 million users and strong product-market fit, Luzia is already demonstrating how culturally fluent, mobile-first AI tools can meet diverse consumer needs at scale. Prosus also sees strong synergies across its global portfolio—where Luzia’s conversational interface can become a high-conversion, everyday engagement layer for sectors like food delivery, fintech, and education.
Meeting an Overarching Mission: Accessible AI for All
Available on mobile and messaging platforms, Luzia supports users with a wide range of everyday tasks—from transcribing audio and translating documents to generating images and solving problems. The platform is free, registration-free, and built with a privacy-first approach—no messages are stored or used for training, and all interactions remain anonymous.
Luzia’s app and tools are widely used by students, families, and professionals alike. With offices in Madrid, Barcelona, and Alicante—and soon, Brazil—the company is becoming a magnet for global AI talent focused on building accessible, high-impact technology.
