The 30th Conference of Parties on climate change: calling for global unity and action

This week, global leaders gathered in Brazil, on the fringes of the Amazon rainforest for the 30th UN Climate Conference. If there is one place that should inspire decisive climate action, it is here, within the rich biodiversity that serves as the lungs of our planet.

Across industries, business remains a powerful force for progress. Central to this effort is the Science-Based Targets initiative (SBTi) which has become the leading framework for corporate climate action and is now adopted by nearly 12,000 companies worldwide. Climate targets extend beyond guiding decarbonisation efforts; a recent SBTi report revealed that nine in ten companies with science-based targets experience tangible positive business impacts.

At Prosus and Napers, we’re proud to be among those committed to SBTi-verified climate targets. This provides us, and our portfolio companies, with a clear direction to drive sustainable growth and contribute to a net-zero future. Given the significance of Food Delivery platforms within our portfolio, achieving our net zero pathway hinges on the decarbonisation of deliveries. In recognising this opportunity, we convened the Deliver-E Coalition, in partnership with UN Environment Programme (UNEP). This coalition is an industry-led alliance that unites the world’s largest delivery platforms, several of which are part of the Prosus portfolio, to accelerate the global transition to zero-emission deliveries.

Takealot is leading green mobility efforts in South Africa by operating the country’s largest fleet of electric commercial trucks. Now, iFood—our Brazil-based subsidiary—has taken centre stage at COP30 by announcing the largest decarbonisation initiative for food delivery in Latin America. This landmark program will introduce 45,000 electric bicycles to its delivery drivers, adding an amazing 10% to Brazil’s stock of electric bicycles. This milestone not only solidifies iFood’s leadership in sustainable logistics but also propels the company further on its growth journey, all while decoupling from emissions.

A significant gap remains between the emerging economies of Africa, Asia, and Latin America and the industrialised nations of the Global North in terms of access to the knowledge, affordable capital, and technology needed to adapt and build resilience.

We have called for advancing climate justice, ensuring a fair and just transition. We were reminded of this need again this week by urgent calls from Indigenous peoples for concrete action and emissions reduction at the Brazilian climate conference.

Companies continue to do what they do best: innovate and adapt to a changing world. But real progress demands unity at the global policy level and bold financial commitments to make mitigation and adaptation central to our shared priorities.

Together, through innovation, collaboration, and accountability, we can turn ambition into action—for people, for business, and for the planet.
