Uniting global platforms to scale zero-emission deliveries

The Deliver-E Coalition — a new, industry-led alliance to accelerate the global transition to zero-emission deliveries was launched this week. Spearheaded by the UN Environment Programme (UNEP) and Prosus, the Coalition brings together eight of the world’s leading delivery platforms: Delivery Hero, DoorDash, iFood, Mr D, Swiggy, Uber, Wolt, and Zomato — several of which are part of the Prosus portfolio.

The Coalition’s significance lies in its potential to drive decarbonization across 100 countries, targeting over six billion two- and three-wheeler deliveries. Advancing sustainable mobility at this scale could deliver major health benefits, as highlighted in our recent report.

“Transitioning to zero-emission delivery vehicles brings better air, quieter streets, lower climate emissions, cost savings, and new green jobs,” said Prajna Khanna, Chief Sustainability Officer at Prosus. “This is collective action at its best — an industry moving as one toward a cleaner, more equitable future.”

A collaborative path forward

No single company can decarbonize the last mile alone, that is the premise of the group. The initiative will act as a shared platform for learning, data exchange, and coordination across the ecosystem — connecting delivery companies with policymakers, financiers, fleet operators, OEMs, and technology providers to accelerate electrification.

UNEP will serve as Coalition secretariat, leveraging its deep expertise in sustainable mobility and its global reach to help members move faster, together.

“Deliver-E represents industry leadership in action,” said Sheila Aggarwal-Khan, Director of UNEP’s Industry and Economy Division. “Zero-emission two- and three-wheelers are ready to scale — they are cleaner, quieter, and increasingly cost-effective. Through Deliver-E, companies can share what works and progress more rapidly than any one could alone.”

The scale of potential impact

Global e-commerce continues to surge, generating US $25 trillion across 43 economies in 2021 — a 15% rise over pre-pandemic levels. At the same time, a UN assessment shows urban delivery emissions are on track to increase by over 30% in the world’s 100 largest cities, with deliveries potentially accounting for up to half of urban transport emissions by 2030.

The industry recognizes both the urgency and the opportunity: electrifying deliveries is essential to achieving climate goals while maintaining the convenience and efficiency consumers expect.
