Empowering education: AI's role in personalised learning and stress reduction
The integration of AI into educational environments is increasingly playing a transformative role, particularly in the classroom itself, offering numerous benefits to both students and teachers.
AI technologies are being used to provide data analytics for early intervention, allowing educators to identify students who may need additional support before they fall behind. Personalised learning experiences can be tailored to the learning styles and paces of individual students, making education more inclusive and effective.
Moreover, AI enables immersive scenario-based learning, where students can engage with complex problem-solving activities in a controlled, virtual environment. Intelligent tutoring systems offer real-time feedback and guidance, complementing traditional teaching methods and providing students with a more interactive learning experience.
Automated grading and feedback systems are also significant, as they can save teachers time and provide students with immediate responses to their work. This not only enhances learning efficiency but also allows teachers to focus more on teaching rather than administrative tasks.
Additionally, virtual assistants in classrooms can manage repetitive tasks, organise resources, and even support lesson planning, further easing the workload of teachers and enhancing the educational experience.
A comprehensive survey conducted by Brainly during Mental Health Awareness Month last May, revealed that a significant number of high school students in the United States are experiencing high levels of stress and anxiety, primarily due to academic pressures.
The survey included responses from almost 16,000 students and analysed academic-related stressors, such as the pressure to achieve good grades, students’ ability to manage time effectively, and homework and exam management.
Overall, 75% of students were found to be seeking more mental health support within their schools, and mathematics emerged as the most stress-inducing subject, with 43% of students acknowledging its significant impact on their mental well-being.
Additionally, the survey explored the role of technology in education, revealing that 59% of students have used or plan to use AI platforms like ChatGPT or Brainly to aid in exam preparation, with a majority (80%) believing that AI can reduce their levels of stress and 73% feeling that AI could help build their confidence in the classroom.
The data also showed that stress levels tend to increase during final exams, with nearly 60% of students feeling more stressed during this period. Despite the availability of some mental health resources in schools, 75% of students expressed a desire for more comprehensive support.
You can read a more detailed report on the findings here, and the survey was also covered in a Financial Times article on the role of technology and AI in the classroom.
While technology is not a silver bullet to tackle stress, students felt that the implementation of AI platforms alongside the inclusion of regular instruction on coping mechanisms and life skills could significantly alleviate their stress levels.
Helping to solve this problem, Brainly recently launched Test Prep, a tool that uses the power of artificial intelligence to revolutionise the way that students prepare for exams.
Test Prep assists middle-school, high-school and college students in preparing for classroom and subject-specific tests by expanding on lessons taught by teachers and creating personalised study plans using generative AI technology. This allows students to concentrate on studying effectively rather than spending time organising their materials.
The tool automatically generates practice questions and explanations based on students' uploaded notes, and study guides, and creates a customised study experience that is directly aligned with students' learning needs. Additionally, Test Prep supports daily customised tasks adjusted to students' schedules, helping to establish good study habits and routines.
By leveraging AI, Brainly aims to reduce stress and build confidence in academic pursuits, making learning more accessible and effective. You can learn more about Brainly’s Test Prep here.
As AI continues to evolve, its integration into educational tools like Brainly's Test Prep and classroom practices will be a game-changer. By reducing barriers to education and enhancing the learning process, AI is not just reshaping how students learn but also empowering teachers to deliver more effective education. As we look to the future, the potential of AI in education holds promising prospects for creating more personalised, engaging, and efficient learning environments.
